One of the promising stories of the Angat Kabuhayan Program of the Office of the Vice President is that of the farmers of Tinambac, Camarines Sur. The OVP has trained vegetable planters in the municipality through various private farmers notably the Pilipinas Shell Foundation. Under the leadership of Atty. Ruel Brioso Tuy, Municipal Mayor, and through the Municipal Agriculture Office farmers in Tinambac have been organized and with this the local government unit has jumpstarted the Enhanced Vegetable Production Program in the municipality. Today, all the farmers’ associations in each of the 44 barangays of the heavily-agricultural town have been federated. The Federation of Vegetable Planters Associations in Tinambac has been a close-knit group ever since. It conducts mobile meetings and today the meeting is held in Sitio Libtong of Barangay Lupi–right on the fertile slopes of Mount Isarog. Various speakers have been invited to inspire farmers even more. They have been urged to engage in planting high-value crops so that agricultural products from Tinambac can also meet the high demand for vegetables such as carrot, cucumber, lettuce, chayote, and many more. All these, as the Local Government Unit of Tinambac continue to focus on improved agricultural production as it fights hunger and poverty from this corner of the Philippine.
